Between the two pictures lies a sharp contrast. In the left,a father is enjoying himself when watching TV, yet he admonishes his son to work hard; in the right, another father and his son are studying together at the desks. The caption below the pictures implies that example is better than precept.
The distinct actions of the two fathers symbolize different examples. Actually, examples, as "silent language", enlighten kids by setting models. Good examples can help children establish ambitious life goals, overcome obstacles and then achieve a meaningfulife. A typical example is Madame Curie. She offered her daughter Iréne a good model with her curiosity about knowledge and perseverance in belief, thus helping Iréne win her own Nobel Prize. On the contrary, bad examples can neither instruct children how to love and be self-confident, nor help them foster good
communication and social skills.Children are more likely to imitate models than listen to admonitions: furthermore,the
most simple admonition, when it comes to bad examples, is of no help. Additionally, if parents'words are not matched with deeds, how can they ask their children to do so?
It is apparent that parental examples not only affect children's behaviors and cultivation, but shape their characters. Therefore, parents should greatly value parental model and take the lead to set up good models, imperceptibly impacting children, so as to make them gradually accept and truly take examples as guidelines.
